Hunger Games' Alexander Ludwig Interested to Play Four in Divergent - He Had a Meeting with the Producer

Alexander Ludwig, the Canadian actor who played Cato in "The Hunger Games," has recently tweeted that he had a meeting with producer Douglas Wick for the role of Four (Tobias Eaton) in the film adaptation of Divergent, a novel by Veronica Roth.

Here is Alexander Ludwig's tweet (October 21, 2012):

According to Nextmovie.com, Alexander might have a chance to get the part because his father Harald Horst Ludwig is a co-chair for Lionsgate's board of directors. Divergent will be released by Summit Entertaintment, the same company which also released the Twilight Saga films. Summit was recently acquired by Lionsgate.

My thoughts?

I think it would be biased for other actors if Alex will be chosen to play Four because of family ties. Alex is a good actor and I hope the casting people will not based an actor's ability to play the character because of family influence. Please bring justice to the casting process of Divergent. I will be happy (and I'm sure the rest of the fandom will) if Alexander will be chosen to play Four because the casting people see something in him, something that makes him our Four, not because he's the son of a co-chairman of Lionsgate's BOD!

In case you don't know, Alexander Ludwig has auditioned for the role of Peeta (Katniss' main love interest) in Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games" but he eventually got the role of Cato, one of the the antagonists in the story. So maybe, family ties won't interfere in the casting process. I hope not!

Shailene Woodley in Final Negotiations to Play Tris in Divergent Movie

A lot of entertainment portals have reported that Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) is rumored to play Tris for the much anticipated film adaption of Veronica Roth's dystopian novel Divergent. Though we didn't have any press release from Summit Entertainment (a subsidiary of Lionsgate) about the official casting yet, Veronica Roth has confirmed on her blog that Shailene Woodley is in her final negotiations to play Beatrice "Tris" Prior in Divergent movie. Read more below to find out more about her message:

This leads me into our next piece of news: Shailene Woodley is in final negotiations to play Tris!

From the moment I heard that she was being considered, I have been nothing but enthusiastic.  My priority has always been, first and foremost, that the role of Tris be well-acted, and Shailene has proven how talented she is, as anyone who has seen The Descendants can attest. And physically, what's most important to me, far and away more important than other aspects of her appearance, is that Tris does not look like an action hero-- she looks like a slight person with youthful, delicate features, someone who shocks you with how strong and capable she becomes. To me, that is exactly the look Shailene has, exactly the look I've always had in my mind. From what I've seen, I'm confident she will be able to capture Tris's particular mixture of vulnerability and strength, and that surprising moment when a seemingly unremarkable girl from Abnegation transforms into a powerful yet flawed young woman.

You can read the rest of the post here. Veronica Roth also talked about her confidence on Neil Burger, who will direct the film adaptation of Divergent.

Shailene Woodley in final negotiations to play Tris
So what do you think of Shailene playing Tris in Divergent?

I think Shailene has the acting chops and I believe that she will be able to play Tris very well. Haters gonna hate and it's pretty normal to have all sorts of negativity when a book is adapted into film because we always have our own Tris in mind. Believe me, I know you have also considered yourself or has pictured yourself as Tris. What's important is that the actress must be able to bring out the character to life - not about her physique or she's too pretty or too frail to handle the action scenes and all that stuff. If Veronica is confident enough that her own story (the world she created and shared to us) is in good hands, let's just support her and be proud that it will be adapted to films. Film makers or casting people do not just pick out someone to play the part if they know that she/he is not capable enough to handle it. Look people, same thing happened when Jennifer Lawrence was chosen to play Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games." At first a lot of people were against the casting because she's blonde, too pretty and too healthy to play the part. And you know what? She turned out to be the great Katniss you could ever imagine. By the way, in case you haven't heard, Shailene Woodley was among the actresses who were considered to play Katniss before Lionsgate decided that Jennifer Lawrence was their heroine.
